Sir Philip Lowe
Former Director General for Energy and for Competition, European Commission
Sir Philip Lowe was appointed Director-General of for Energy in the European Commission in February 2010. Following a period in manufacturing industry, he joined the European Commission in 1973, and held a range of senior posts as Head of Cabinet and Director in the fields of regional development, agriculture, transport and administration, before becoming Director General for Development in 1997. From September 2002 until 2010 he was Director-General for Competition. Sir Philip Lowe retired from the European Commission at the end of 2013. In October 2013 he was ppointed a Non-Executive Director of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) Board in the UK. He read Politics, Philosophy and Economics At Oxford University and holds an MSc from the London Business School.
